Genre: Indie folk, Indie rock
Review:
Lord Huron reminds me a lot of The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, and a little tiny bit of Father John Misty, with a dash of the oldies. The UK band's sound is so entrancing, soothing, and heartbreaking, it's ambiance could almost get lost in the background but it draws you back in with it's lyrical depth and overall passion and zeal.
The album Strange Trails could probably be considered a concept album (though I haven't found it to be labeled as such) due to the fact that it's basically all about one thing. The album reminds us all that we're simply aimless travelers helplessly wandering in our endless search for love. Strange Trails reflects on the beautiful yet sometimes painful journey we are all on, and the many roads and wrong turns we take in this quest for true companionship. Discussing unhealthy relationships, loss, and remaining a hopeless romantic despite it all, this album is truly one of the most entrancing albums I've had the pleasure of listening to in a long time.
The song, 'The Night We Met', below is a song that instantly broke my heart. The melody and lyrics compliment each other beautifully to tell a story of a relationship gone so wrong that one wishes they could turn back time to avoid ever encountering the other. This devastating story inspired me to dissect the entire album, and I encourage you to listen.
